AI Chat Games: Play Free Story Games by Chatting With AI Characters

AI chat games are story games you play by typing to characters: you write what you say and do, and an AI narrator and cast answer in character, turn by turn, so the story goes wherever your choices take it. On Teasa you can play hundreds of them free in your browser, with no sign-up for your first 20 turns. Pick a Story, type the name the Characters will call you and make your first move.

Each of these Stories opens on a scene with a role for you, a cast and a goal worth chasing. Open one, tap Enter, type your name and write your first line.

  • Murder Mystery: a storm, a Victorian mansion with no way out and two bodies in a bedroom. You are one of nine guests, and nobody has ruled you out. Question Levi the detective and Oliver the sheriff, watch who lies and decide who you trust before morning. 15 quests, a cast of nine.
  • I'm... a Constellation?: you wake as a constellation, the Weaver of Causality, with a system window open and 500 points per hero to spend. Sponsor, test or abandon the four heroes below you and see what your choices make of them.
  • The Verdict Was Already In: you're the king's youngest child, and you've just learned your family plans to condemn you in a year. Walk into the family breakfast you were never invited to and spend the year your way. 20 quests, a tyrant king and four princes.
  • The Tokyo Share House: eight singles move into a luxury Tokyo house for a televised dating show. Cameras roll, alliances form, and you decide whose attention to trust. 17 quests, seven housemates.
  • Too Cocky to Be a Hero: a bored god dropped you and a self-declared hero into the same fantasy world. He has just cornered you at the guild, sure you're stealing his spotlight, while his four companions watch. 15 quests.

Type dialogue as plain text and put actions between asterisks, like *checks the lock*. Prefer a one-on-one conversation to a game? Message any Character in DMs, free and unlimited on a free account.

What makes a good AI chat game

A chatbot answers you. A game gives you somewhere to go. The AI chat games worth your evening have five things in common, and every Teasa Story is built from them.

A role and a situation. You don't start in a blank chat. A creator has written the opening scene and who you are in it: a suspect, a porter, a disgraced prince, a new student. The first reply already has stakes.

A narrator. A narrator sets each scene, moves time along and describes what your actions change, so the world keeps happening around you. That's what separates a story game from texting one character.

A cast. Teasa Stories can hold up to 32 Characters, each with a personality, a way of speaking and relationships with you and with each other. Everyone with something to say answers in the same reply, in their own voice. Name a Character to speak to them directly; the group scene help shows how it works.

Goals: quests and milestones. Many Stories carry up to 20 creator-written quests. Tap the gold coin at the top of the chat to see your objectives. Some Stories reveal them one at a time, others open them all at once. A quest completes when it actually happens in the story, not when you announce a plan, and each one pays its gold once. Relationship milestones record the moments you earn with a Character, and History shows your bond grow from Just met to Inseparable. The quests and milestones help has the details.

Consequences. Every reply is written from the conversation so far, so what you said ten turns ago still counts. Accuse the wrong guest and the room turns on you; help a rival and they remember. Teasa also saves lasting facts you share and the milestones you earn, and the Memory panel shows what each Character remembers and lets you forget any of it.

How a turn works

  1. Open a Story and read the opening. The Story page tells you who you play and who's in the cast.
  2. Tap Enter. As a guest, type the name the Characters will call you; with an account, you play as your persona.
  3. Make your move. The box asks "What do you say or do?" Write dialogue, an action or both.
  4. Read the reply. The narrator sets the scene, and each Character who speaks gets their own line.
  5. Check your goals. The gold coin at the top of the chat opens your quests and the gold each one pays.
  6. Change course when you want. On the latest reply, Regenerate writes a fresh take, Edit response lets you rewrite it and Tell AI what to change takes a direction. Branch from here continues from an earlier reply in a copy, and Start new replays the Story from the opening. The regenerate and edit help shows where each control lives.

An example turn

This is an example we wrote to show how a turn in Murder Mystery reads. It is not a recorded reply.

You: *I kneel by the bedroom door and run a finger along the lock.* "Levi, this was locked from the inside. So how did anyone get out?"

Narrator: Rain hammers the window. Out in the hallway, someone holds their breath a second too long.

Levi: "They didn't, unless they were never in here." *He tilts the lamp toward the keyhole.* "Fresh scratches. Who in this house knows how to pick a lock?"

Oliver: "Nobody answers that until I've got everyone in one room." *His hand rests on his holster.* "That includes you."

Your action put a clue on the table, your question gave the cast something to argue about, and the reply turned suspicion back on you. That's the loop of an AI chat game: every turn changes what the others know, believe and want, and the next move is yours.

AI story chat: chatting inside a story

AI story chat is the same idea seen from the chat window: instead of talking to a lone chatbot, you talk to characters who live inside a story, with a scene, a past and people around them. On Teasa there are two ways to do it.

  • Stories are the games: a creator's opening, your role, a narrator and a cast, with quests and milestones. Your first 20 turns need no account.
  • DMs are one-on-one chats with a single Character, about their world or your day. They're free and unlimited on a free account, and on a Story's page you can tap Chat with on a cast member's card to text them directly.

AI chat games vs AI Dungeon, text adventures and visual novels

AI chat games borrow from three older kinds of story game. Here's how they compare, checked on 20 October 2026.

Teasa AI chat games AI Dungeon Classic text adventures Visual novels
Your turn Anything your character could say or do Do, Say, Story or See mode, then your own words Typed commands the game's parser understands Click or tap to read on, and pick from set choices where the story branches

Where you start A creator's Story with your role, a cast and quests A Scenario or your own prompt The game's opening room The game's opening scene

AI Dungeon. Latitude's AI Dungeon calls itself "a free AI text adventure game where players create open-ended stories, explore interactive worlds, and guide every choice online or in the app". Each turn you choose a mode (Do for an action, Say for speech, Story for your own narration, See for an image) and use Continue, Retry, Undo, Redo or Erase to move the adventure. It needs an account to play. The free Wanderer tier gets 25 memories and up to 4k tokens of context, and memberships run from $14.99 to $99.99 a month. AI Dungeon is a sandbox where the AI invents the world from your prompt; a Teasa Story starts with the world, the cast and the goals already written. The AI Dungeon alternative guide goes deeper.

Text adventures. Infocom released Zork in 1980, one of the earliest examples of interactive fiction, and the text-adventure genre peaked in the 1980s (The Strong National Museum of Play). You typed commands to move, take things and solve puzzles, and Infocom's parser was notable for accepting complete sentences (Paul Gray PC Museum). Every answer was written in advance, so anything the authors didn't anticipate got a stock reply. An AI chat game keeps the typed freedom and answers whatever you write.

Visual novels. A visual novel is a story-focused game genre of Japanese origin: static character art and backgrounds, text boxes, progress by clicking or tapping, and in many titles choices that branch the plot. You pick from the options the writers offered. In an AI chat game the cast still has faces and voices, and your choice is any line you can type. The AI visual novel vs AI roleplay guide plays one scene both ways.

Teasa sits where the three meet: the open input of a text adventure, a cast with portraits like a visual novel, and the improvising AI of AI Dungeon, starting from a Story a creator has already built for you.

Make your own AI chat game

Every Story on Teasa was built in Creator Studio, and yours can be too, free. Write the opening scene and the player's role, build a cast with personalities and portraits, add up to 20 quests and relationship milestones, then play-test privately before you publish. FAQ

What are AI chat games?

AI chat games are story games you play by typing to AI characters. You write what your character says and does, and an AI narrator and cast reply in character, so the story changes with every choice. On Teasa each game is a Story with an opening scene, a role for you, a cast and often quests to complete.

Are there AI chat games with no sign up?

Yes. On Teasa you can play any Story in your browser with no sign-up for your first 20 turns: no account, email or download. When you create a free account with Google or email, the same Story continues where you stopped.

What are the best free AI chat games?

On Teasa, start with Murder Mystery for a whodunit with nine suspects, I'm... a Constellation? for a system game where you sponsor four heroes, The Verdict Was Already In for court intrigue with 20 quests and The Tokyo Share House for a dating-show game. All are free to play in your browser.

What is AI story chat?

AI story chat is chatting with AI characters inside a story rather than with a lone chatbot. On Teasa you play a role in a creator's Story while a narrator and cast answer you, or you message one Character directly in DMs about their world or your day.

Are there text-based AI games with a narrator and a full cast?

Yes. Every Teasa Story has a narrator who sets the scene and a cast of up to 32 Characters, and everyone with something to say answers in the same reply, each in their own voice. Name a Character to talk to them directly.

How are AI chat games different from AI Dungeon?

AI Dungeon starts from a Scenario or your own prompt, and the AI invents the world and its characters as you go; it needs an account. A Teasa Story starts with a creator's opening, your role, a named cast and quests, and your first 20 turns need no account.

Can I play AI chat games on my phone?

Yes. Teasa runs in any phone browser, guest turns included, and the Android app on Google Play uses the same account. On an iPhone, play in Safari and add Teasa to your Home Screen.

Can I make my own AI chat game?

Yes, free in Creator Studio. Write an opening and a player role, build a cast, add up to 20 quests and relationship milestones, play-test privately and publish your Story for others to play.
