In this guide
Teasa puts two kinds of AI chat in one app. AI chat roleplay happens in Stories: a creator has staged the opening scene, given you a role and assembled a cast, and you write what you say and do. AI character chat happens in DMs: open any Character's profile, tap Message and text them one-on-one about their world or your day.
What's free on Teasa
- Guest play with no account. Play the first 20 turns of any Story in your browser before you give anyone an email address.
- Every Story. Romance, fantasy, mystery and slice-of-life Stories are all free to play, many with quests and relationship milestones built in.
- DMs with any Character. With a free account, direct messages are free and unlimited, with no relationship level to unlock first.
- Two chat styles. Hojicha is free, and Matcha is free for now.
- Memory you control. The Memory panel shows what Teasa has saved about you, and you can forget any of it or pause collection.
- Creator Studio. Build a Character or a whole Story, play-test it privately and publish it, all free.
The Help Centre answers is Teasa free, and what Teasa Pass adds in one table.

Your first line: three ways into one Story
Your first turn sets the direction, and a line with a feeling, an action or a question gives the scene somewhere to go. Take The Speakeasy Sweetheart. It opens at closing time at Rei, a hidden speakeasy. You already work the bar with Chinatsu, and you're already together, so the Story is about what happens once her cool senior act drops. Here are three first lines you could write:
- Say something real: "You were flawless tonight. Sit down. I'm pouring for you for once." It hands Chinatsu a moment to accept, deflect or tease back.
- Do something: *I flip the sign to Closed, set two glasses on the bar and pull out her stool.* An action changes the room, so the reply has to meet it.
- Ask what only she knows: "Which regular almost made you break character tonight?" A question pulls her history and the bar's world into the chat.
A bare "hi" leaves the cast to guess what you want. Your guest turns go much further when each one moves the scene. For real recorded replies from this Story, and how two different first lines lead to two different evenings, see the AI roleplay guide.
AI chat roleplay or AI character chat: Stories and DMs
- Stories are for adventure. A world, a cast, quests and a plot that moves with your choices. One reply can carry the narrator and several Characters in the scene, each in their own voice, while you play your own role.
- DMs are for conversation. Text one Character one-on-one, about their world or your day. Characters reply in their own voice and in your language, and when the two of you agree on a date, Teasa writes it as a private Story for you both to play.
A Character you meet in a Story is one tap away in DMs, and the milestones you've earned and the things you've shared come into the conversation with you.
Hojicha or Matcha: choosing a free chat style
| Chat style | Feels like | Choose it for | Best for languages | Access |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Hojicha | Warm and toasty conversations with a teasing edge | Playful banter, flirty teasing, lively reactions and action-rich Stories | English, Japanese, Chinese, Korean | Free |
| Matcha | Deep and rich conversations with a touch of bittersweet | More substantial dialogue and scenes shaped by what you say | 15 languages, including English, Spanish, Portuguese, French and German | Free for now |
| Oolong | Thoughtful and playful conversations with a lingering warmth | Long conversations, with Teasa Pass's 4× memory | The same 15 as Matcha | Teasa Pass |
Hojicha is the default style for Stories. DMs run on Matcha, and Teasa Pass members can switch them to Oolong. You can change styles in any chat.
