Import your Character.AI chats

Bring your Character.AI chats to Teasa and keep your stories going.

Teasa is an app for interactive AI roleplay Stories and Character chat. Its Character.AI chat import reads your Character.AI data export in your browser and turns each character you pick into a private Teasa Character with a private Story that continues your latest chat. Your earlier chats come along as the story so far.

How to import your Character.AI chats

  1. Export from Character.AI

    Ask Character.AI for your data in its settings. It emails you a download link.

  2. Upload the ZIP here

    Teasa reads your chats right in your browser and lists your characters.

  3. Pick your characters and keep playing

    Each one becomes a private Story that picks up where your chat left off.

How to export from Character.AI

On the website

  1. Open character.ai, then your Profile and Profile Settings.
  2. Choose Account, then Manage Account & Data.
  3. Click Export Data.

In the Character.AI app

  1. Tap your profile, then Settings.
  2. Tap Legal & Privacy, then Export Data.

Character.AI emails you a download link when your export is ready. It can take three to four weeks, and the link works for seven days, so download the ZIP as soon as it arrives.

Using CAI Tools

Want your chats sooner? The CAI Tools browser extension downloads them from Character.AI right away. Save them as Tavern (.jsonl) or Oobabooga (.json) and choose those files instead.

Questions about importing

What gets imported?

Your characters, your latest chat with each one as a Story that continues it, and your earlier chats, remembered as the story so far.

Is it private?

Yes. The Characters and Stories you import are private to you.

Does it cost anything?

No. Importing is free, and your first import adds 3 days of Teasa Pass.

Which files work?

The ZIP from your Character.AI data export, or chats saved with CAI Tools as Tavern (.jsonl) or Oobabooga (.json) files.

Do I need my Character.AI password?

No. Teasa never signs in to Character.AI and never asks for your Character.AI login. You bring the file Character.AI emails you, or your CAI Tools files.

Is my whole export uploaded?

No. Teasa reads the file in your browser, and only the messages of the characters you pick are sent to Teasa.

How many characters can I bring?

Up to 30 in one import.

Is Character.AI shutting down?

Not right now. Character.AI filed for Chapter 11 on 12 October 2026 and says the platform stays up and running during the court-supervised sale, which should finish by the end of November or early December 2026; if no bid lets it continue, it will be wound down. Your export can take three to four weeks, so request yours now.
