What is Chub AI?

Chub AI is a platform for chatting with AI characters and for creating and sharing them. Its own guide at docs.chub.ai describes it as "a platform that allows you to interact with characters through the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) Large Language Models (LLMs)." Creators upload character cards, and anyone can chat with a character on Chub or download its card to use in another app. Chub launched in 2023 and is run by a small independent team; one of its developers goes by Lore.

The names you see in searches all point to the same service. Chub is short for CharacterHub, and SillyTavern treats characterhub.org links as Chub links. Venus, or Chub Venus, is what players called Chub's chat in 2023. Today the card library and the chat live together at chub.ai.

Chub doesn't tie you to one model. Chats run on Chub's free default model, on its paid Mercury and Mars models, or on a model you connect yourself, from OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, OpenRouter, NovelAI or your own computer. Beyond one-on-one chat it has lorebooks, chats with several characters, a full chat tree for branching, chat memory summaries, image generation and Stages, which are add-ons that extend a chat.

How to use Chub AI online on a PC or phone

Chub is a website, so on a Windows PC, Mac or Chromebook you use chub.ai in the browser, and on a phone the same site runs in Safari or Chrome.

1. Open chub.ai in Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari.
2. Browse or search the character library and open a character.
3. Choose Chat with and the character's name to open the chat.
4. To use your own model, open the menu at the top right of the chat, paste your API key under Secrets and choose Check API Key, then pick the API and model under Configuration.

The same menu holds Chat Settings, where you add more characters, attach a lorebook or a Stage and export the chat, and Chat Memory, where you write or generate a summary of the story so far. In the menu beside the message box, Impersonate Me writes your next line for you and Imagine generates an image.

Chub AI login

1. Open chub.ai and choose Register, or log in if you already have an account.
2. Enter an email address, which Chub uses for password recovery and subscriptions, a public username and a password. Chub's guide recommends a password manager.
3. Log in with the same details on every device to find your characters and chats.

Chub AI character cards

A Chub character is a card: a name, an avatar, a tagline, tags and the definition that shapes how the character talks. The definition holds a description, a first message, an optional scenario and example dialogs, and advanced fields such as alternate greetings, a system prompt and a character book of keyword-triggered entries. Creators make each character public, private or unlisted and mark it safe for work or not, and a character needs at least three tags to show up in search.

• Forking copies another creator's character to your account as a private version you can edit.
• SillyTavern imports Chub links directly: its Import from URL recognizes chub.ai and characterhub.org addresses and fetches both characters and lorebooks.
• Chat export saves a Chub chat as JSONL for SillyTavern, as a PNG or as plain text.

Teasa takes cards too. In Creator Studio on the web, Bring a character turns a character card you already have (.json or .png, Character Card V1 to V3) into a private Teasa Character. To write a card that holds its voice, follow the AI character card guide, and keep world facts in a lorebook.

Is there a Chub AI app?

No. On 26 October 2026, App Store and Google Play searches for Chub AI showed no app from Chub, and Chub's former App Store listing no longer opens. Apple removed Chub's iPhone app in July 2025, saying its model could generate adult content. Store results with Chub in the name, such as Chub ai: Image Generator on the App Store, come from other developers.

On a phone, open chub.ai in Safari or Chrome. To open it full screen like an app, add it to your Home Screen: in Safari tap Share, then Add to Home Screen.

Is Chub AI free? Models, API keys and Mars

Yes. Creating an account, browsing and downloading cards and chatting on Chub's default model cost nothing. The default model has a small context, which is how much of the conversation it can work with at once; for more, subscribe or connect another model.

Chub's guide recommends official API keys over third-party reverse proxies, for security. Subscriptions are sold at chub.ai/subscription and use your account's email. Mercury and Mars also run as an OpenAI-compatible API, so a subscription works in SillyTavern, Agnaistic, Risu and Kobold Lite too.

Is Chub AI down?

Chub's guide doesn't link a status page, so check its community channels. Chub's GitHub profile links its Discord server, "Chub", with about 27,000 members on 26 October 2026, and the r/Chub_AI subreddit.

Chub AI age rules

Chub AI is for adults only. Its terms of service require users to be at least 18, and its iPhone app carried an 18+ label before Apple removed it. In July 2024 Chub began hiding adult content from players in the UK and Australia, and in October 2025, after notices from Australia's eSafety Commissioner, it blocked access from Australia entirely.

Teasa is rated 13+. Its Stories are written in the register of the romance and fantasy novels on a library shelf, every Story in the catalog is reviewed before it's published, and there is no unfiltered mode to switch on.
