What is SpicyChat?

SpicyChat is a platform for chatting with AI characters, which it calls chatbots, and for creating your own. Its home page bills it as AI chatbots and roleplay for adults, and its community guidelines require every user to be at least 18 and every character to be an adult. SpicyChat is owned and operated by NextDay AI Incorporated of Montreal, Canada, with its subsidiaries NextDay AI USA Inc in Delaware and NextDay AI EU Ltd in Cyprus, and its FAQ says a team of sixty runs the site, led by its founder, Booster.

SpicyChat launched in June 2023, and its 2025 review, posted on 12 January 2026, counts nearly 84 million users in 2025, up from 41 million the year before. Beyond one-on-one chats it offers user personas, lorebooks, group chats and Director Mode, and its help docs live at docs.spicychat.ai.

How to use SpicyChat online on a PC or phone

SpicyChat is a website first. On a Windows PC, Mac or Chromebook you use spicychat.ai in the browser, and SpicyChat calls the website the best place to chat, where new features and bug fixes arrive first.

1. Open spicychat.ai in Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari.
2. Browse the front page, or narrow it by tag or by language.
3. Pick a character to open the chat. Its greeting appears first, and you reply to begin.
4. Choose Sign In when you want your chats kept.

Open a chat without an account and SpicyChat shows a notice: unregistered visitors get limited text and image generation, and their chats aren't saved. Once you're signed in, conversations save automatically and Chats in the main menu lists them. On a phone the same site runs in Safari or Chrome, and the app section below covers Android and iPhone.

SpicyChat login

1. Open spicychat.ai and choose Sign In.
2. Enter your email and SpicyChat sends a sign-in code to your inbox; there are no passwords. Or choose Continue with Google, Apple, X or Discord.
3. Use the same method each time so you land in the same account.

If you made your account in the old iPhone app, the same login works on the website, Apple sign-in included. If Apple sign-in fails, SpicyChat's help docs say to switch off Hide My Email and try again. A deleted account can't be restored, though the same email can register a new one. For anything else, SpicyChat takes support tickets at support.spicychat.ai.

Is SpicyChat down?

SpicyChat doesn't link a status page from its website or help docs, so check its own channels. Its support page calls the SpicyChat Discord server the fastest way to get help, with moderators there around the clock, and its site footer links the r/SpicyChatAI subreddit and @SpicyChatAI on X.

Is there a SpicyChat app?

On Android, yes, but not from Google Play. SpicyChat's Android app is an APK you download from its Android app page, and its help docs confirm that this APK, not anything on the Play Store, is the official app.

1. Uninstall any older SpicyChat app on the phone.
2. Open the Android app page on spicychat.ai and download the installation file.
3. Open the downloaded file, allow your browser to install apps from this source, and tap Install.

Android may show a security warning first, which SpicyChat's docs call normal for apps installed outside the Play Store. A Google Play search for "spicychat" shows apps from other developers with SpicyChat in their names; SpicyChat's own app comes only from spicychat.ai.

On iPhone and iPad, no. Apple removed SpicyChat from the App Store in August 2025, saying the app didn't comply with its guidelines, and the old iOS app is no longer updated. Instead, open spicychat.ai in Safari, tap Share, then Add to Home Screen, and SpicyChat opens full screen like an app.

Is SpicyChat free? Plans and prices

Yes. SpicyChat says its core features stay free for everyone, with paid tiers funding the rest. Free users chat on the models marked available to everyone, with ads and up to 4,096 tokens of context, which is how much of the conversation a character can work with at once.

These prices took effect on 8 September 2026, replacing $5.00, $14.95 and $24.95 a month. A recurring subscription that started earlier keeps its old price while it stays active on the same plan; any plan change moves to current pricing. Euro prices match the dollar figures, and in pounds the tiers cost £4.95, £16.95 and £25.95 a month. The subscribe page advertises 17% off for paying annually.

SpicyChat takes cards, Pay By Bank, Boosty and crypto through CoinPayments; Pay By Bank payments are one-time and don't renew. Manage a subscription with Manage Subscription in your profile. Its refund policy, updated 7 October 2026, says fees aren't refundable once the membership's login has been used, and partial months aren't refunded.

SpicyChat age rules and content settings

SpicyChat is for adults only. Its community guidelines say all users must be at least 18 and every character must be portrayed as an adult over 18, and its privacy policy says the service does not address anyone under 18. Characters that depict minors are prohibited and are removed.

In France, Italy, the UK, Australia and 26 US states, Texas, Florida and Virginia among them, SpicyChat asks for an age check before it shows adult content. A third-party partner runs it, in most regions with a video selfie and an ID check as the fallback, and SpicyChat says it never sees or stores those images. Skip the check and you can still use the site, with adult content locked. The check is tied to your account, not your device.

In Profile Settings, one toggle hides chatbots with explicit images or language and another blurs explicit images. SpicyChat labels each chatbot as safe for work or adult automatically to decide where it appears on the front page, and its FAQ notes that the label doesn't limit where a chat can go.
