What is Janitor AI?

Janitor AI is a platform for chatting with AI characters, which it calls bots, and for building your own. It's run by JanitorAI Inc., which lists a developer address in Claymont, Delaware on Google Play, and its help centre describes the site as "the front-end interface that lets you chat with AI characters (bots), create them, manage settings, and switch between LLMs." The front page leads with "Be anyone. Build anything." and "Join 15M+ users crafting living stories," above feeds of community bots.

Chats run on JLLM, Janitor's free built-in model, unless you connect another one, and the paid plan is janitor+. In the app stores it's Janitor: Interactive Stories.

How to use Janitor AI online on a PC or phone

Janitor's help centre lists apps for iOS and Android only, and the App Store marks the iPhone app "Not verified for macOS," so on a Windows PC, Mac or Chromebook you use the website. Janitor's terms count janitorai.com in a browser, "including as an installed web app," as an official way in.

1. Open janitorai.com in Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Safari or Brave.
2. Choose Register to make an account, or Login if you already have one.
3. Browse the Popular feed or press Ctrl K to search, then open a bot and start the chat.
4. Type your message. Replies come from JLLM until you pick another model under API Settings, behind the gear icon at the top right of the chat.

On a phone the same site runs in Safari or Chrome, and it's the only place to change the app's content setting.

Janitor AI login

1. Open janitorai.com and choose Login, or Register for a new account.
2. Sign in with your email and password, Google, Apple, Discord or X.
3. Use the same account as in the app, so settings you change on the website sync to it.

Under Settings → Security you can connect or disconnect sign-in methods and sign out of every other session. Password changes are confirmed with a one-time code by email. If it doesn't arrive, Janitor's help centre says to check spam, junk and promotions, make sure your inbox isn't full and that mail from support@janitorai.com isn't blocked, then try another browser or device. Support can't make these changes for you or recover an account whose email you've lost.

Is Janitor AI down?

Check status.janitorai.com, Janitor's official status page, first: it tracks the Backend and Frontend and offers Get updates. For announcements, Janitor's help centre lists its Discord server and the r/JanitorAI_Official subreddit. If the status page is clear, the error on screen tells you where the problem is:

Is there a Janitor AI app?

Yes. Janitor: Interactive Stories is on the App Store for iPhone and on Google Play for Android, where it has more than 1 million downloads, and Janitor's help centre says "These are the only official JanitorAI apps." The app is free, covers most of the website's core features and adds push notifications and haptic feedback; Google Play labels it a beta release.

To meet store rules, the app starts in a "Safe Mode" that only a setting on janitorai.com changes. Store searches for "janitor ai" also show apps from other developers, such as J.AI - AI Friends Chat on the App Store, so check that the developer is JanitorAI before you install. Janitor's terms treat signing in through an unofficial client or a modified app as grounds for suspending or deleting an account.

Is Janitor AI free? JLLM, your own API key and janitor+

Yes. The free tier includes "Unlimited chats with millions of bots," standard chat models and a context limit of around 9k tokens, and Janitor says it "will always keep a free option available for everyone." The free model is JLLM, short for Janitor Large Language Model, which its help centre calls "free, built-in, and ready to go out of the box."

janitor+ launched on 24 June 2026 at $12.99 a month. It adds 5x more context for memory, priority access for faster replies, monthly swipes with Janitor's best models and a golden username, and the US App Store lists it at $12.99 a month or $99.00 a year. Cancel a web subscription under Settings → Billing → Manage Subscription; app subscriptions are cancelled in the App Store or Google Play.

Janitor AI age rules

Janitor AI is for adults only. Its terms of service, last updated 8 October 2026, say it "is intended solely for users who are at least 18 years of age" and bar anyone younger from using it or creating an account, and its privacy policy says the same. Users connecting from Australia, Brazil or the UK complete a one-time age check with k-ID, and Janitor receives only a yes-or-no answer on whether they're over 18.

Creators tag bots Limited, for general audiences, or Limitless, for mature themes, and Janitor keeps a zero-tolerance policy on characters coded as minors. In the app, Safe Mode hides Limitless bots from search and discovery and keeps replies safe for work until the account holder changes a setting on janitorai.com.

Teasa is rated 13+. Its Stories are written in the register of the romance and fantasy novels on a library shelf, every Story in the catalog is reviewed before it's published, and there is no unfiltered mode to switch on.
