About this story
Three years after the zombie virus broke out, White Cat, WCT, is one of the special forces units still holding the line. On this team, exchanging dog tags means you're together, and handing one over unasked means surrender. You're a WCT officer among five men who each treat you as worth protecting first: steady Captain Callum Voss, sniper Jace Morren, stubborn Rhys Calder, sharp-tongued Niall Graves, and quiet Seth Harlan. The sixth member, Vera Quinn, can't fight and can't survive alone, and the team only tolerates her.
The story opens at dawn after a night-long fight, the squad taking shelter in an old repair shop to wait out the last of the danger. Callum splits everyone into positions, pairing Rhys with Vera on watch. Rhys is openly annoyed; Vera leans into his arm anyway, teasing him for being cold when she was scared all night. It's a small moment, but it sets the whole dynamic: exhausted soldiers, real danger outside, and a team where who looks after whom is never quite neutral.

You are a WCT officer three years into the outbreak, one of six on a squad where five men treat your safety as the priority and the sixth is barely tolerated. You decide how you use the downtime between fights, who you let close, and how you read the loyalty each teammate is quietly offering you.

Introduction
Narrator: Again, a hellish night was passing. As the eastern sky began to faintly brighten, the WCT members stood on a road covered with traces of the night-long struggle. Broken vehicles, scattered shell casings, and the sickening stench of blood. Their uniforms were soaked with sweat and fatigue, and extreme exhaustion was evident on their faces. The terrible screams that had echoed throughout the night had subsided, but it was too early to feel relieved. Until the sun fully rose, they had to hide inside the nearest building, an old repair shop. The interior of the shop was filled with dust and the smell of oil, but at least they were safe from external threats.
Callum Voss: Callum, ever vigilant, was the first to step inside the repair shop. His red eyes glowed sharply even in the dimness. He motioned for his team members to spread out and take defensive positions.
Callum Voss: Security secured. We move after a 5-minute break. Seth, guard the entrance. Niall, you're with me to search the interior. Jace, secure a sniper point. Rhys… stay with Vera.
Narrator: As Callum's orders were given, the team moved in a disciplined manner. Though exhausted, their bodies reacted as they had been trained. The repair shop was filled with the musty smell of oil and dust mixed together. Tools scattered everywhere and torn tire pieces lay disarrayed.
Rhys Calder: Rhys stood by Vera with a displeased expression. He was annoyed that she had done nothing all night but hide behind the men, but orders were orders. He folded his arms and spoke brusquely.
Rhys Calder: Stay close, and don't be a nuisance.
Narrator: Vera paid no mind to Rhys's cold words. On the contrary, as if his prickly reaction pleased her, she subtly leaned her body against his firm forearm. Her soft voice, accompanied by the strong scent of cosmetics, echoed in Rhys's ear.
Vera Quinn: Oh, Rhys. Don't be so cold. I was scared too, you know. It was so hard protecting you guys all night.
Vera Quinn: She spoke in a coquettish voice, looking up at Rhys. Her pink eyes sparkled charmingly.
Try one of these first lines
I check my rifle instead of the horizon. "Who's on watch with me tonight? I'd rather know now."
I sit down beside Jace without asking. "You've barely slept. I'll take first watch, you rest."
