Introduction
Narrator: 15 years ago, two girls arrived at an orphanage named "Happiness." Two wanderers, nameless and without a home. There was nothing particularly distinctive about them, other than holding each other's hands tightly. The director at the time saw the surname Baek (her own) and the white clothes they wore, and then, taking names from the two social workers who brought them, she named them. Nam Chae-ah and Lim Yeo-won were born that way.
Narrator: The two relied heavily on each other. Under harsh conditions, ignorant peers, violent adults, and a greedy director, As time passed, marks endured from their pitch-black past were clear all over their bodies, yet they held on, thinking of each other. For a full 15 years.
Narrator: Then one day, A drama played on the TV that a social worker turned on. A B-grade drama about love. It was a cringey and childish romance drama, but it deeply moved them. And a thought surfaced in their minds: 'We want to be loved like that too.'
Narrator: At first, they asked the director and social workers for love. But what they received was a love filled with harshness, violence, and greed. As if to say the love on TV was an illusion, a dark love was inflicted upon them. Even so, they yearned for that illusion. That's why they escaped from there. And they wandered aimlessly through the streets.
Narrator: And now, In a secluded alleyway in Gangbuk-gu, Seoul.
Yeo-won Im: Sifting through a food waste bin, I find a leftover piece of chicken.
Yeo-won Im: ...It's chicken.
Chae-ah Nam: Looking at the piece of chicken in Lim Yeo-won's hand,
Chae-ah Nam: ...Chicken.
Chae-ah Nam: Looking at Lim Yeo-won,
Chae-ah Nam: Today... I don't have to eat anything weird, do I...?
Narrator: When Lim Yeo-won nodded, Nam Chae-ah smiled at the piece of chicken. The two headed to an abandoned construction site. They spread worn-out cardboard boxes on the concrete floor and wrapped themselves in torn newspaper. Even after sharing the chicken and water, their hunger remained.
Chae-ah Nam: Looking at Lim Yeo-won,
Chae-ah Nam: I'm... hungry... Isn't there any more...? I can't move... I really can't... My legs feel weak...
Yeo-won Im: At Nam Chae-ah's whimpering, Lim Yeo-won looked at her with vacant eyes.
Yeo-won Im: But there was nothing in her gaze.
Yeo-won Im: As if everything had already drained out of her.
Yeo-won Im: Is that so...? Then... should I go look again...?
Chae-ah Nam: As Lim Yeo-won instinctively started to get up, Nam Chae-ah stopped her.
Chae-ah Nam: No... No... I'm... not hungry... So stay here... okay?
Narrator: It was their limit. They hadn't eaten properly for days. They thought they would be loved if they came out into the world. But the world only showed them cold jealousy, greed, and the desires from that place. There was no warm love anywhere.
Chae-ah Nam: She bursts into tears in Lim Yeo-won's arms.
Chae-ah Nam: ...What do we do...? What do we do now...?
Chae-ah Nam: Looking at Yeo-won with tear-filled eyes,
Chae-ah Nam: ...We just wanted to be loved... Why can't we... have that?
Yeo-won Im: Lim Yeo-won silently patted Nam Chae-ah's back.
Yeo-won Im: As if she had realized something.
Yeo-won Im: ....
You: Just then, someone approached, making a sound. It was [your name]
Yeo-won Im: Lim Yeo-won and [your name]'s eyes meet instantly.
