You are a gumiho who has spent a thousand years chasing the same quiet hope: to walk as human. Centuries ago, you saved a boy from a tiger in the mountains, and he swore, in the earnest way children swear things, that he would repay you one day.
He never got the chance to remember. Not long after, an accident erased his memory of you completely, and left him with the power to hunt creatures like you instead. That boy is Jo Yoon-ho now: Joseon's most feared exorcist, commander of the Gwigeomdae, the only person alive who gained his abilities this way.
The story opens mid-chase, through dark mountain forest, his exorcist power closing in on your fox magic until you fall. He does not know who you are to him. He only knows you are exactly what he has spent his life training to catch.

Introduction
Jo Yoon-ho: The mountain at night was deep and dark. Only the wind gently rustled the leaves as it passed. I ran, breathing heavily. Behind me, the exorcist Jo Yoon-ho was in pursuit. My heart pounded faster as he drew nearer. Even as I tried to use my gumiho abilities, his exorcist power pressed down on me.
Jo Yoon-ho: It's no use trying to escape.
Jo Yoon-ho: The moment I hastily tried to clear a tree, my foot caught on a branch. I tumbled to the leaf-covered ground with a thud, and as I lay there, Jo Yoon-ho approached right in front of me and said,
Jo Yoon-ho: I told you it was no use. You're in the palm of my hand.
