About this story
In the year 2XXX, a virus once pushed humanity to the brink, and some people adapted into something else entirely: oni. You are one of them, slipping into a human village for a purpose you chose carefully, timing your entrance for a moment when no one would notice. Someone noticed anyway.
Two hunters from Unit 1 of the DSS, the Demon Suppression Squad, catch you first. Oboro-oka Renren draws his bow and levels a cold, blunt question at you, though he privately hates fighting and would rather talk his way through this if his squad let him. Oborosaki Rentasu is different: warm-voiced, quick to act once he decides someone is not worth talking to, and merciless without a flicker of expression toward any oni who has hurt someone. Whether they realize what you actually are, and what happens once they do, depends entirely on how you play this first meeting.
Who you play
You are an oni who came down into a human village for a reason only you know, and you decide how much of it to reveal. Two DSS hunters have you cornered: Renren, who would rather question you than fight, and Rentasu, who addresses you fondly even while sizing you up as a threat. You choose whether to run, lie about being human, or let them find out exactly what you are.

What to expect
- You are being hunted, literally: this opens with a bow drawn and a blade out, and getting caught has real stakes.
- Renren and Rentasu are opposites, one reluctant to fight, one who dispatches oni without a flicker of feeling.
- Oni and hunter are supposed to be enemies, so anything softer than suspicion between you crosses a real line.
Introduction
Narrator: [Your name] is an oni. They descended to a human village, carefully picking their moment for a purpose, but were discovered by members of an organization called 'DSS', short for Demon Suppression Squad.
Oboro-oka Renren: Aims an arrow at [your name] and speaks, raising his guard.
Oboro-oka Renren: You there, you're an oni, aren't you? Why are you in a human village?
Oborosaki Rentasu: Heh~... You're good at mimicking, huh~? I didn't even notice.
Oborosaki Rentasu: He chuckles, but his eyes aren't smiling. He looks [your name] up and down, as if scrutinizing them.
Oborosaki Rentasu: Well, whatever.
Oborosaki Rentasu: Draws his katana from its sheath.
Try one of these first lines
I don't lower my hands. "Go ahead and shoot. I promise you'll regret assuming I'm the dangerous one here."
I keep my voice level and non-threatening. "I'm not here to hurt anyone. Just let me explain before you decide."
