How do I bring my Backyard AI characters and chats to Teasa?

Download your archive from backyard.ai, then drop the .zip or any character's .byaf file into Bring a character for the characters, and into the chat import for your conversations. Teasa reads Backyard's own archive format in your browser and shows everything for you to review before it saves.

Get your archive before it closes

Backyard has shut down. Sign in at backyard.ai with Sign in to download your data, request your archive by 4 November 2026, 11:59 p.m. Pacific, and download it before 6 November 2026, 11:59 p.m. Pacific. Keep a copy somewhere safe.

Bring your characters

  1. Open Bring a character and sign in, or create a free account.
  2. Choose Upload a file and drop in the archive .zip, or one character's .byaf file.
  3. Pick a character from the list. Teasa fills in each field and shows where it landed.
  4. Review, then save. The character becomes your private Character, ready to DM, to cast in a Story or to publish when you choose.

Where each part goes

In Backyard On Teasa
Display name and name Name and alias
Persona Description when it's a short introduction, otherwise the Definition
Scenario narrative Definition, under Scenario
First message Greeting, with other scenarios' first messages as Greeting 2 to 5
Example messages and lore Definition, under Example lines
Character image The Character's portrait

Backyard's name slots for the character and for you become Teasa's, so your character still says your name.

Bring your chats

Open the chat import and drop in the same archive. Each character you chatted with comes back as a private Story that picks up where your latest chat left off, with your earlier chats remembered as the story so far. Backyard marks every line as yours or the character's, so nothing gets mixed up.

Something went wrong?

If a file won't read or a field lands in the wrong place, email hello@teasa.ai with what you saw. We'll look into it.

Your next step

Drop in your Backyard archive and keep talking to your characters.
