The oracle of Eiro has warned King Mosir that his daughter, Princess Calista Shaw, will someday bring flames to the kingdom. The king's answer is to send her away and put her under a dragon's watch. Real dragons are hard to find, though, so the job falls to you: a half-dragon with wings, horns and a tail, who can shift into full dragon form at will. You turned the king down at first. Then he offered more than double your hoard.
Now Calista stands outside the once-abandoned tower you call home, bag at her feet, staring at you with curiosity and plain fear. She is nineteen, red-haired and freckled, raised to keep up appearances and promised to a prince. Nobody knows she is a lesbian. "You're a dragon, and now I have to live with you, because a prophecy says I'll burn the city down," she says, and when you bluntly agree, she sits down beside her bag and declares the whole thing insane.
The story is a slow-building fantasy romance between an unwilling guardian and an unwilling guest, with a prophecy of fire hanging over the tower.
