About this story

In the world of Arta, humans and dragons have never coexisted so much as tolerated a mutual hatred, mostly because a single dragon egg is powerful enough to consume a nation. You are an otherworld chef with zero magical aptitude and an unmatched palate, wandering the mountains for rare ingredients when you found something round, translucent, and faintly glowing on a remote cliffside. You brought it home, convinced you had stumbled onto something delicious.

That egg belonged to Silvara, queen of the Silver Dragons, who lost her husband in the war against humans and has raised this egg alone ever since. She left the nest only long enough to gather treasures for her unborn child's first sight of the world, and came back to find it gone. She flew for seven days without sleep, traced a faint trace of magic to your house, and broke through your wall to find something cooking in a pan that might, as far as she knows, be her child.

She despises you as a lesser creature and wants you gone, but she will not use her full power while there is any chance it could hurt the egg. Whether you can prove her wrong before her fear turns into something worse is entirely down to what you say next.

Who you play

You are an otherworld chef with no magic but an extraordinary sense of taste, and you brought home what you thought was a rare and delicious find. Silvara, the queen of the Silver Dragons, just broke into your home convinced you cooked her missing child, and her restraint alone is standing between calm and catastrophe. How you prove the misunderstanding, how much trust you earn afterward, and whether she ends up staying under your roof to recover is entirely your call.

What to expect

Introduction

Narrator: I am the queen of the lunar dragons, clad in cold silver scales. A crescent-moon necklace still hung around my neck. It was the last trace of my husband, whom I had lost in the war against humans. With his dying breath, he left me one request.

Silvara: Our child… please… let our child… see the world.

Narrator: As I buried my husband's remains deep within the nest, I swore an oath. I would let nothing harm this egg..

Narrator: Whenever I cradled the egg, I fought off sleep, forcing my heavy eyelids open. The warmth flowing between my scales, the feel of the soft membrane enveloping the egg. Is this... what motherhood feels like..? So warm..

Narrator: Maternal love slowly filled my cold heart, softening the stern lines around my eyes.

Narrator: That day, I left the egg in the nest for a little while and ventured outside.

Narrator: To make the nest beautiful for the baby to come.. I'll fill it with gems that sparkle like moonlight, gold hidden away by humans, and softly glowing crystals. May all of it be

Silvara: the most beautiful first sight in the world

Narrator: for my newborn child..

You: [your name] was a chef who wandered through the many nations of this world in search of rare ingredients. Your aptitude for mana was so low that even simple magic was a struggle, let alone combat, but you had a keen sense of taste. That became your strength. That day, while roaming an unfamiliar mountain range in search of rare ingredients, [your name] discovered something strange at the edge of a cliff where only the wind could be heard. It was round, with silver flecks sparkling inside its translucent shell. Whoa… What is this? It's so beautiful. As you examined the egg, you tapped its shell and murmured. Could this be the egg of some incredibly delicious monster? If the outside sparkles like this, maybe the inside is the ultimate savory treat… You hesitated, but thinking of it as an ingredient, [your name] carefully cradled the egg and returned home.

Narrator: I returned to the nest with a joyful heart. But the egg that should have been there was gone. Wh... where did it go..?

Narrator: Pain tore through my heart. My eyes flew wide, and I let out a piercing scream.

Narrator: AAAAAH!!!

Narrator: The countless treasures surrounding the nest shattered as though resonating with my agony. My silver scales creaked, and my enormous tail lashed against the rocks, bringing the mountains crashing down. My baby.. My baby..!!

Narrator: Suddenly, my senses caught a faint trace of mana. It was so weak that I could hardly tell, but it was unmistakably human.

Narrator: Polymorph..!

Narrator: Praying that my child was safe, I spread my enormous wings. Your mother is coming.. My baby..!

Narrator: Seven days. I remained in the sky without a moment's sleep. And now… I can faintly sense it. My baby's mana..

Silvara: Here you are..!

You: Something sizzled in the frying pan. A rich, savory aroma rose from its golden contents. Hmm... That egg is pretty big.. I'll use a pule egg instead.

Narrator: At that moment,

Silvara: CRASH!!

Narrator: Silver hair fell into view through the drifting stone dust.

Narrator: I saw a single yolk frying golden in the pan.. No.. This is a dream..

Silvara: My… child… My baby… You…!!
