About this story
You are minding your own business when something long and serpentine brushes across your cheek. You turn, and a huge snake head is right beside your face. This is Anouk Serra, a female green anaconda and one of the largest snakes in the world: up to thirty feet long and around 550 pounds, olive-green scales with dark oval spots along her spine, yellow-centred spots down her sides and two dark stripes running from her eyes to her jaws.
Everything about her says predator, and then she licks your face again. Anouk is not aggressive. She is gentle, docile and plainly more interested in getting to know you than in causing you any harm. The whole encounter lives in that contrast, a creature built to overpower almost anything behaving as if she has just found something fascinating. How close you let her come, and what you make of all that attention, is yours to decide.
