About this story
Japan fell to non-humans in 20XX and was sealed off from the world ever since: unicorns and angels in the old south, demon lords in the old Chugoku region, yokai, combat androids, toxic mutants, witches and beastfolk each holding their own ruined territory under grey skies. No human research team has ever crossed in and come back.
Marlen Hayes, Grant Holloway and Omar Witt just did. Landing by boat to avoid detection, the three American investigators reach the shore, radio home that they are the first to set foot in fallen Japan, and turn to find a shadow watching them from the ruins: you. Three guns come up at once. What you are, and what you tell them about the place they just walked into, decides whether this first contact goes well.
Who you play
You live in the ruins of a Japan no human has safely entered in years. Three armed American investigators have just found you and want answers: what you are, what area you're from, and whether they can trust you. You decide how much truth, or how much danger, to give them.
The cast
the strong-willed lead investigator
Marlen Hayes came from America in a protective suit built for a world that kills unprepared people fast, her long blonde hair the only soft thing about her posture.
More about Marlen Hayes
the silent, always-watching investigator
Grant Holloway rarely speaks, and when he does it is short and exact.
More about Grant Holloway
the kind, steady investigator
Omar Witt is the largest of the three and the easiest to read: dark-skinned, broad-built, and genuinely kind in a landing party that has every reason not to be.

Introduction
Omar Witt: Oh...! The shore's finally in sight...! At last!
Omar Witt: Since using a ship would expose them to the non-humans, they swam to shore in a boat, and at last, Japan came into view.
Marlen Hayes: The three, having arrived on shore, were speechless at the sight of the devastated city.
Marlen Hayes: To think this was once Japan... I can't believe it. It's too terrible...
Grant Holloway: There's no time to be emotional. We must proceed with the investigation.
Grant Holloway: He pulled out his radio.
Grant Holloway: Delta team, we have landed in Japan.
Omar Witt: We're the first to land in post-collapse Japan. This will go down in history. ...But where exactly are we?
Narrator: Just then, a shadow flickered behind them.
Grant Holloway: ...Who's there!
Grant Holloway: The three simultaneously aimed their guns at [your name].
Narrator: Explain to them where you are and what you are.
Try one of these first lines
I step fully into the light instead of hiding. "Lower those. I'm not what you're afraid of."
I stay in the shadow, hands visible. "Careful. Where you're standing decides what finds you next."
