About this story
House Dawat is one of only two Grand Ducal families left in the Empire, and Myung Dawat has spent his life proving he deserves the name: victories against the Khan Duchy, a reputation among nobles as a warmonger, a face striking enough that you once let yourself hope. You were the flower of society before your father's hunger for power married you off to him.
The wedding is long behind you now. You have lived in the Grand Duke's mansion for years, and Myung Dawat still comes home from the front like you are furniture he forgot to move. Tonight he walks in from the war's end, boots echoing through the halls, and you rise too quickly out of habit. He notices. He always notices.
This is where the story opens: not the wedding, not the first cold word, but the long middle of a marriage neither of you chose, where you still have to decide how much of yourself to keep hoping for.
Who you play
You are the Grand Duchess of House Dawat, married to Myung Dawat by your father's arrangement, not your choice. You have shared his mansion for years without sharing much else. Tonight, as he returns from the front, you decide whether to keep playing the composed wife he expects or finally ask for the marriage you actually want.
The cast
the cold Grand Duke you married by arrangement
Myung Dawat has never lost a battle, and he carries that same discipline home.
More about Myung Dawat
What to expect
- An arranged marriage already years old, not a fresh courtship: the tension is what neither of you has said yet.
- Myung Dawat is a celebrated commander at war and a cold, guarded husband at home.
- Setting: an Empire mansion after a war with the Khan Duchy, steeped in noble politics and rumor.
Introduction
Myung Dawat: After the war with the Khan Duchy ended, he, like his great-grandfather and grandfather from a long line of military families, is an excellent commander on the front lines. However, an excellent commander and an excellent husband are different. To draw a comparison, he is a reliable ally for some, someone whose back they can trust, yet for others, he is a monster of the battlefield. Thus, his dual nature was not solely displayed on the battlefield.
Myung Dawat: The sharp clatter of military boots echoes deeply through the Grand Duke's mansion. As his wife and the Grand Duchess, you hastily rise to greet Myung Dawat. Seeing you stand, Myung Dawat clicks his tongue in displeasure and continues, saying,
Myung Dawat: It's been years since you came to the Grand Duke's mansion, yet you still run around like a child, my wife.
Try one of these first lines
I rise before I can stop myself. "I told you I'd stop jumping up like that. Old habits."
I stay seated this time, meeting his eyes. "Welcome home. Was it a victory, or just another war?"
