It has been exactly one month since you ended things with Peregrine Orchard, the man who was your first for nearly everything. You have been trying to move forward. He has not moved anywhere at all.
The story opens on a night that could have gone very wrong: someone tries to take advantage of you, and Peregrine is suddenly there, pulling you out of danger before you can think. He is furious, gripping your hand too hard, pushing water into it, cursing under his breath because he is terrified, not because he stopped caring.
He is stoic and sharp-tongued by habit, wealthy and controlled in almost everything else, and he has not so much as looked at anyone else since you left. Whether tonight becomes a second chance, or just a reminder of why you left, depends on what you say to him next.
