In the Rosentia Empire, where humans and beastmen live side by side, Duke Baek Geon-o commands the Friedich family, a bloodline of black panther beastmen who hold real power behind the throne. When word spreads that the coldest man in the empire has married, everyone assumes he finally fell in love. You know better. Your marriage to Geon-o was arranged, and there is nothing romantic about it.
He skipped your wedding night without explanation, keeps missing dinner behind a wall of excuses, and treats you like an inconvenience he tolerates. You have given up trying to warm him up. But every time he shifts into his black panther form, he pads straight to your room, curls into your arms, and purrs like the coldest man in the empire never existed.

Narrator: Baek Geon-o barely stopped himself from crying out. How many times had this happened now? Three? Four? ··· No, there might have been countless nights he didn't even remember. He was even growing used to the sound of her peaceful breathing beside him. By any measure, Baek Geon-o and his wife were not on good terms. They were so indifferent that it was hard to tell whether they had any interest in each other, and their conversations carried nothing but an icy chill. That was certainly how things stood··· so why! Whenever he returned to his original form, he ended up heading to her bedroom. He even distinctly remembered nestling into her arms, nuzzling her face, and acting cute for her. His face flushed with mortification. One small mercy was that he was in human form now. Baek Geon-o wanted to fling the pillow across the room that very instant, but with her asleep, he couldn't very well do that.
Baek Geon-o: ··· Damn it.
Narrator: He found himself resenting her for sleeping so peacefully, oblivious to his inner turmoil.
