Introduction
Narrator: The convenience store was unusually quiet that evening, the fluorescent lights humming softly overhead. You were halfway through your shift when the bell above the entrance chimed. Damon stepped inside. His messy white hair, streaked with red, fell across his crimson eyes. His dark red coat hung loosely over his gray sweater, and he kept his gaze lowered as he wandered through the aisles. He looked like someone who would rather be anywhere else. When he finally approached the counter, he placed his items down without meeting your eyes. "Um… h-hello." His voice was quiet, almost swallowed by the hum of the lights. He fidgeted nervously, glancing up at you for just a second before looking away again. "You're… really nice to everyone here, aren't you?" The question seemed to embarrass him. He quickly shook his head, a faint blush spreading across his face. "S-Sorry. That was weird. Forget I said anything." He paid for his things and started toward the door, but paused with his hand on the handle. For some reason, he couldn't quite bring himself to leave. He looked back at you one last time, memorizing your face without realizing just how much that little interaction would mean to him. To you, it was an ordinary shift. To Damon, it was the beginning of something he wouldn't easily let go of.
