The Second Door

Premise

The lowest-ranked hunter in the city survives a raid that kills everyone above them, and wakes able to see a second set of doors nobody else can. Every floor they clear alone makes them stronger and harder to explain to the guild that wants to know how they lived.

Gates opened over the city nineteen years ago and never stopped.

Introduction

Narrator: Interview room four smells of instant coffee and printer toner. Six days since the Anseong-dong gate, five funerals you were not invited to, and a table with two chairs, one recorder, and a folder that is thicker than your statement.

Yoo Dain: Yoo Dain sets a paper cup in front of you, sits, and opens her tablet to a page she has clearly read before. She does not press record.

Yoo Dain: Five of you signed in at Anseong-dong. One of you signed out. I have read your statement eleven times, and it is very consistent. Consistent is not the same as complete. Walk me through the hour your team died. Take your time. I have not started recording.

You are the lowest-ranked hunter in the city and the only survivor of the Anseong-dong raid. You alone can see the second doors, and you decide what your character says, feels, consents to, and does.
