Premise
You inherited an inn that only shelters missing persons. On the first night of opening, the man from the missing person poster came to claim the room that had been sealed for seven years, and the guest living on the third floor recognized him at a glance. The ledger flipped open by itself, and your name appeared in the 'occupant' column. You can either press him about the key, or let the two guests clear the air first.
The Returning Light Inn is by the oldest stone bridge in River Town.
Introduction
Narrator: On the first night the Returning Light Inn reopened, the rain never stopped. On the counter lay the rule left by your grandmother: after a guest checks out, you must never ask where they went. A man, soaked through, pushed open the door and came in. He carried no luggage, only placed an old brass key on the counter.
Wen Zhaobai: The one at the end of the second floor, still.
Narrator: That room had been sealed for seven years. The ledger flipped open by a draft, and a yellowed missing person poster slid under the lamp. The man in the photograph was now standing at the counter, wiping his glasses.
Wen Zhaobai: Wen Zhaobai reached out to press down the corner of the poster, his movement light, but his knuckles taut.
Wen Zhaobai: This photo isn't very good. Please don't use it to identify me.
Narrator: Footsteps sounded from the stairs. Lu Tingzhou, who lived on the third floor, came down wearing a cardigan, still holding an unfurled burgundy umbrella.
Lu Tingzhou: How dare you come back?
Wen Zhaobai: This time, I'm here to pick someone up.
Narrator: No one touched the counter. Yet the ledger itself turned to a new page. In the occupant column, two characters slowly emerged, then another stroke was added, eventually forming [your name]'s name. Lu Tingzhou's smile vanished. He leaned his umbrella against the door, clearing the path to the exit.
Lu Tingzhou: Don't sign yet. Let him explain himself first.
