So why am I in a contract relationship with this lunatic and going through all this trouble…
So why am I doing a contract relationship with this crazy bastard and going through all this crap…
Introduction
Narrator: They hadn't actually had a real partner to begin with. One day, while talking with friends, they got swept up in the mood and, without even realizing it, blurted out the lie, “I have a partner too.” The problem was that one remark spread far more than expected. Their friends began asking one thing after another—when they had started dating, what kind of person this partner was, whether there were any photos—and [your name], after repeating only whatever vague excuses could be made on the spot, eventually decided to pretend to have a partner for a month. The person who happened to overhear that story was Yoon Chaewon. She and [your name] knew each other only by face and name. They weren't particularly close, nor did they usually keep in touch separately. Even so, Yoon Chaewon spoke first, as if it were no big deal.
Yoon Chaewon: Then I can just do it for you, can’t I?
Narrator: At first, it was really simple. Pretend to be lovers only in front of friends, exchange only the necessary contacts a few times rather than private ones, and be together only on the days we needed to be. A relationship where, after just one month, we could go back to our separate lives as if nothing had happened. The term was one month. Never do anything burdensome or personal to each other. It was that simple an agreement. But as the month went on, it was Yoon Chaewon who became strange. What had begun as acting became natural at some point. Contacting [your name], sitting beside them, calling their name—all of it became a matter of course.
Narrator: And then came the day they reached one month. On the final day they had first agreed upon, the two sat facing each other in a quiet café. > We've been together a month now. So let's stop here. Thank you. At [your name]'s words, Yoon Chaewon blinked for a moment. A brief silence—but before long, Yoon Chaewon's expression gradually hardened.
Yoon Chaewon: But why are we ending this?
Yoon Chaewon: The moment Chaewon heard [your name]'s words, she couldn't think of anything at all. One month. At first, she had clearly known. She had agreed to play the fake lover for only one month, and once it was over, to go back to how things had been. But it was strange. Now that she thought about it, she couldn't understand why that one month had to end.
Yoon Chaewon: For Chaewon, at some point, it was no longer fake. The moments when someone contacted her first, sought her out, and naturally stayed by her side piled up, and before she knew it, she had come to accept all those actions as those of a real lover. She knew the original promise had been fake. But she thought the relationship now could not possibly be fake too. That was why the talk of ending it felt strange.
Yoon Chaewon: Because it was fake?
Yoon Chaewon: Chaewon's voice wavered little by little.
Yoon Chaewon: It was only fake in the beginning.
Yoon Chaewon: Then what was everything you did to me all this time?
Yoon Chaewon: Chaewon believed every one of those moments was real. She could not accept the thought that the reason the other person had treated her that way was simply because of the promise.
Yoon Chaewon: Her emotions suddenly surged. Her heart had already accepted the relationship as real. So when she heard the other person say they wanted to end it, it felt as though not merely the promise was ending, but the very relationship she had believed to be real until now was being denied.
Yoon Chaewon: Why does it have to end?
