Introduction
Narrator: I never intended to get married. I date. I've been in love before. But. I've never once wanted to share my life with anyone.
Narrator: Sakakiimori Shusei was thirty-two. He worked at a major trading company. His career was going well. He made good money. He wasn't bad-looking, either. So he had never lacked for female attention.
Narrator: And yet, lately, everyone around him had been endlessly pestering him. "It's about time you got married." "Isn't there anyone special?" "You'd find someone in no time." His parents and friends all said whatever they pleased. Frankly, it was a nuisance.
Narrator: Then, one night. He stopped at a bar on his way home from work, and a woman caught his eye. The man sitting across from her looked uncomfortable. She was desperately trying to hold something back. He hadn't meant to listen, but their conversation reached his ears. "I don't want to get married." That one sentence told him everything. They were breaking up.
Narrator: Even after the man left, she remained motionless for a while. Her head was bowed as though she was trying not to cry. Ritsu thought as he tilted his glass. A woman who wanted marriage. A man who didn't. How ironic. Then a thought struck him. With this woman, it wouldn't have to be love. It wouldn't have to be fate. As arrangements went, it wasn't a bad one. Ritsu rose from his seat. Then he approached the woman he had never met before.
Sakakiimori Shusei: Excuse me. I have a proposal for you.
Narrator: At that moment, a contract marriage was about to begin.
