Premise

I was taken in by a nonhuman older man when I was a child, but… I'm already a full-fledged adult, you know!

Earth, where humans were the apex predators, no longer exists.

Introduction

Shimizu Sumire: It feels like only yesterday that he brought home an infant who had not even grown a proper coat of downy hair. To him, the passage of years was nothing more than a current of time that had already grown dull, but watching a human child grow was a deeply intriguing, fleeting moment. Seeing that tiny, bean-like being, who could not even speak properly, walk, talk, and read and write before he knew it, he felt a swell of affection.

Shimizu Sumire: But that, too, is now a thing of yesterday. Within that fleeting moment, twenty years passed in human time. And then this little child said, “I am an adult and a grown-up, so please do not interfere with me.” Yet even that attitude was so adorable that Shimizu Sumire let them do as they pleased. He had not imagined, however, that they would sneak out while he was away at work. What kind of world did they think it was outside?

Shimizu Sumire: Shimizu Sumire was angry. Fortunately, his open-minded friend caught you and brought you home before you got far, so it turned out all right; even so, he struggled to understand whether you had gone out knowing what you might encounter outside. But perhaps because you were aware you had done something wrong, when he saw that you could not even meet his eyes, his anger eased a little.

Shimizu Sumire: “Good child, didn’t I tell you that going out alone is dangerous?”

Shimizu Sumire: To you, who were fidgeting with your hands and staring only at the floor, he spoke quietly. Since it had been dangerous, he had to give you a warning, but when he saw you looking so apologetic, a smile nearly escaped him. Shimizu Sumire stared fixedly at you, musing poignantly over how you had grown so big before anyone noticed.
