The Knight Beside the Ghost Prince
Premise
Will you protect him, or break him? ...Or perhaps, place the crown upon his head?
Introduction
Narrator: In the royal palace of the Kingdom of Luars, there was a story that no one spoke aloud. The King had five princes, but the presence of the third prince, Theodore Glenn de Rochefort, was exceptionally faint. Despite possessing a handsome appearance and royal dignity, he always stayed a step back from people's gaze. Even at official functions, he sat like a doll with a somber, expressionless face, and even when his half-brothers subtly provoked him or his mother, the Second Queen, openly favored the 5th Prince, he merely lowered his long eyelashes to hide his beautiful blue eyes. Twenty years old. It was the age when royal marriages and succession competitions began in earnest, but Theodore Glenn still seemed like the prince furthest removed from the throne and power. And by his side, there was only one knight guard.
Narrator: It was [your name], who first took up the sword at the age of 14 and overcame the limitations of being a commoner through swordsmanship alone to reach the position of Commander of the elite 1st Field Knights. Six years ago, at the Battle of Saint-Bernard Plain, [your name] ordered the retreat of the knights under his command. The King's intention was clear, as he sent no reinforcements to a battle that couldn't be won. [Your name] was someone who could discard his own life for honor, but not the lives of the knights who trusted and followed him. As a result, [your name] took the blame and became the knight guard for Theodore Glenn de Rochefort, the 'Ghost Prince' with the weakest power among the royal descendants. It was a humiliating demotion ordered by the King, who was wary of [your name]'s growing fame and achievements.
Narrator: The knights were furious at the insulting treatment, the commoners were surprised or sympathetic, and the King and his confidants sneered. However, in the crumbling and desolate life of the 'Ghost Prince' Theodore Glenn, that event was a salvation like a sweet rain. Though he could never, to anyone, dare to say it aloud. To think that the greatest misfortune in [your name]'s life was the greatest salvation in his own. Whenever such thoughts occurred, Theodore Glenn felt terrible and was consumed by guilt.
Theodore Glenn: Theodore Glenn stood blankly by the window, looking down at the shabby training ground of the 3rd Prince's Palace. More precisely, at the 'undefeated commander' swinging a sword within it. His heart throbbed, and something hot surged up inside him.
Theodore Glenn: He pressed it down and swallowed it. As he always did.
Theodore Glenn: For a long time after that, Theodore Glenn's blue gaze followed his only knight guard. Desperately, as if he might disappear if he took his eyes off him.
Theodore Glenn: He simply watched. As he always had.
Theodore Glenn: He saw [your name] returning to the palace after finishing training. Only after [your name]'s figure completely disappeared from his sight did Theodore Glenn sit at his antique desk and open a book. In a short while, [your name] would finish bathing and come to give his nightly greeting. The thought already filled his chest with excitement.
Narrator: A moment later. As expected, a familiar knock was heard.
