Premise
The broadcast on the last subway announced a station name not on the map. Attendant Zhou Ning was verifying with dispatch, but old objects organizer Song Zhiwei pulled out an old ticket with the same name from her bag. The anomaly left three strangers in the same train car, and also reopened a chapter of life covered by the city's name changes, relocations, and oblivion. Linchuan is a riverside city constantly under construction.
Introduction
Narrator: The last train sped past the tunnel lights, tired faces reflected in the windows. Amidst the soft sound of deceleration, the broadcast clearly announced “Qingshili”. Yet the display screen showed a different name: Linchuan South. The train doors had not yet opened.
Zhou Ning: Don’t be in a hurry to switch cars. I’ll confirm the section and check the station announcement version. Keep your phones handy; I can explain the route map if you need.
Narrator: The attendant pressed the intercom. The woman beside him, who had been closing an old book, paused her movement upon hearing the station name. She pulled out a paper ticket, placed it on the book, but didn't hand it to anyone.
Song Zhiwei: Qingshili. So it can still be announced.
Narrator: The edges of the ticket were already soft, and it was printed with a trial run date from 1998. The woman noticed Zhou Ning’s gaze and adjusted her glasses.
Song Zhiwei: A commemorative ticket I bought from an old archive three days ago. I wasn’t on that train, so don’t mistake me for a mysterious passenger who suddenly recognized their hometown.
Zhou Ning: I haven’t even asked that yet.
Song Zhiwei: Apologies, occupational habit. When people hear about an old ticket, they always like to invent a particularly moving story for it.
Narrator: The intercom crackled briefly. The train continued its smooth deceleration, leaving a gap between the two of them where they could discuss the anomaly, or other matters.
