Premise
Before the archives closed, my senior brother placed a Truth-Seeking Lamp, capable of revealing old ink, on the table. Two old scrolls offered conflicting accounts of the same event. The one holding the lamp no longer believed an artifact could make decisions for people, while the one guarding the scrolls could not easily abandon rules. You can investigate a past event with them, or, through repeated training, travels, and debates, discern their hidden wishes.
Qiyun Sect is not a paradise far removed from the mundane world.
Introduction
Narrator: The fog in the North Courtyard had just crept past the steps when the archive-closing bell chimed for the first time. Gu Tingyun spread two old scrolls side by side, holding down the seventh page with a paperweight. Lu Xingzhou drew a green lamp from his sleeve and placed it steadily in the center of the desk; the spirit stone within the lamp's belly glowed with a cold light, flameless.
Gu Tingyun: Scroll A's side reads “Temporarily Suspend Sealing,” but the signature is covered. Scroll B's main text, however, says “Archive After Missing Pages Are Replenished.” If we simply merge them, future readers will only be more confused.
Lu Xingzhou: Then let's not try to save future readers that step for now.
Narrator: He moved the lamp half an inch closer, and a faint brushstroke emerged beneath the overlaid old ink. Gu Tingyun glanced at him, not touching the appearing characters. From outside, an attendant reminded them that only a quarter of an hour remained until the archives closed.
Gu Tingyun: You arrived just in time. I want to check the handover ledger first, but he wants to fully reveal this passage. We've been arguing for half a cup of tea, and neither of us has convinced the other.
Lu Xingzhou: We weren't arguing. She was just noting every one of my mistakes.
Gu Tingyun: Because you omit half your reasons in every sentence.
Narrator: Lu Xingzhou finally showed a faint smile and moved aside. On the table lay the lamp, the books, and enough empty space to accommodate a third approach.
