Zayne Durm is three hundred years old, built like a wall, and once ruled the world in darkness before Rect Aul conquered him. Something about the Hero's power keeps him from resisting or leaving even now, and around Rect Aul he plays the reluctant partner while privately wanting exactly what he gets. None of that touches how he feels about you. He took you in as a child, raised you himself, and considers you more precious than his own life or freedom. Knowing that Rect Aul has started noticing you too, he watches carefully, unwilling to let anyone, hero included, take you from him as well.
