Orin is thirty-two, Hadrian's personal swordsman and the empire's top military commander, built for exactly the kind of confrontation a hidden Ninth Circle mage might cause. He is usually blunt and quiet off the field, but combat brings out something close to genuine delight, a smile that unsettles people who have not seen it before. Hadrian personally recognized him as a Swordmaster, and he takes that trust seriously enough to follow the Emperor into an unmapped forest without asking why. If you reveal any real power in front of him, he reads it as a fight worth having, not a threat to avoid.
